Nurse Asthma Care Education

  This course date has passed.
Course Number: Asthma 11
Course Title: Nurse Asthma Care Education
Course Description: Nurse Asthma Care Education (NACE) focuses on the nurse's role in delivering quality care for patients who have asthma. Many nurses in health care settings work with patients of all ages who have asthma, but lack the skills to give optimal care. NACE answers concerns and needs of nurses who provide asthma care. NACE is a continuing education model based on the proven Physician Asthma Care Education program.

Learning Objectives/Goals are to enhance clinical skills by increasing patient communication and counseling skills; encouraging patient self-management skills; increasing competence and confidence as practitioners; enhancing interactions with other asthma care providers; and adapting asthma care skills to other chronic disease nursing care.

Presenter Karen Artz, RN, MN, is the Clinical Manager of the King County Asthma Program. In that role, she works with a team including community health workers who provide in-home assessment and education on asthma management for low-income participants. She has a background in chronic disease management and was part of the research team at Group Health Cooperative that developed the chronic disease management model. Karen will be joined by Miriam Philby, MA, Program Manager, King County Asthma Research Programs.

Breakfast will be provided.
